Pressroom - Cheers For Chocolate
It certainly isn't hard to find good chocolates, but Dan's Chocolates, of Randolph, goes a bit further. What we have here are ``the freshest, best-tasting truffles in the States,'' according to spokeswoman Cindy Rinehart; we'd call that selling them short. These are some of the best chocolates anywhere, in fairly traditional but whimsically named flavors such as "mintastic," "orangado" and "carmalita." (You won't find any of those currently fashionable but bizarre varieties such as wasabi or thyme here.) Dan's sells only on the Web and by phone; as a result, said Rinehart, these are ``the freshest chocolates around, not something that's been sitting in the mall for months.'' Tasteful themed boxes (all $33.99 for 1 pound) range from Christmas to Kwanzaa to gardening to dogs to ``I'm sorry'' in Chinese. All well and good, but what's the twist? A portion of the proceeds from each sale goes to a charity of your choice (look on the Web site for a drop-down menu of options). Dan's founder Dan Cunningham ``has a countercorporate ideology,'' said Rinehart. ``He wants to keep things personal and give back.'' Call 800-800-DANS or go to www.dans.com.
